In a new paper released today, Motivating the Middle, Kwasi Kwarteng MP and Priti Patel MP set out ideas to reform the tax system.
Incentives are important. In order to retain global corporations and high paid workers, the Coalition has lowered corporation tax and abolished the 50p rate. Its welfare strategy, meanwhile, has focused on removing perverse incentives as benefits are withdrawn and making sure work pays. While these measures are to be welcomed, we need middle Britain to be equally motivated.
In this paper Kwarteng and Patel discuss taxes on workers and businesses and make recommendations to motivate the middle class and increase competitiveness.
