Conservative MP’s who form the Free Enterprise Group call for benefits to be capped at £20,000, cutting it from its current cap of £26,000. The MP’s argue this will create revenue for middle-class tax cuts and send a powerful message to the work shy. The proposal highlights a series of targeted measures to reduce the tax burden on the middle classes such as increasing the starting point for paying 40% tax from £41,450 to £50,000.
